Jenn and I were supposed to feed 100 rock climbers yesterday, so she came over the night before and we proceeded to cook 8 pounds of bbq pulled pork, 5 batches of coleslaw and a few gallons of chili. We opted to NOT make the 2nd batch of pork, or the meatballs for the meatball subs. We figured it'll snow some, so not everyone will show up.
We finished cooking, sat down with a beer and relaxed. Went to bed...
When I woke up, it was WHITE out. Everything was white and smooth, like someone had airbrushed the neighborhood with marshmallow cream. Hmmm, I thought to myself. I wasn't so sure we were getting out of our driveway, let alone the neighborhood. So to keep a long story short, it snowed a lot, and we opted to stay here, not risking cars and lives to feed a few people. As it turns out, our neighbor with a full-size 4-wheel drive truck couldn't even get out of our neighborhood. It took all the neighbors digging, carpets put under the tires, and weight added to the back and he still barely made it.
So....in order to use some of our food, we invited a bunch of the neighbors over for lunch. It was hard getting here, as you'd literally have to wade through 2 to 3 feet of snow to get here. So the neighbors snowblowed a little maze of paths to our house, which was quite cool!
The neighborhood had most of the driveways cleared yesterday, with everyone helping each other out. But the plows didn't come until 11pm last night, so there was literally no physical possibility of leaving. So Jenn, dear friend, stayed again! We enjoyed Scrabble and more leftovers, and woke up to a beautiful day with melting snow.

After breakfast, and after Jenn safely got headed home, we went out to play in the snow with the neighbors. They were sledding down the pile from the plow then onto the sidwalk and on down the hill. They made forts and had snowball fights, just like a real neighborhood! I can't brag enough about my neighbors, so I won't. But they rock. One funny story though....the dog from down the hill had left a "deposit" on the sledding path. One time one of the boys went right over it in his sled and it smeared. He stood up then announced "The track is going to be stinky, it's a stinky track!" That just made me smile.
My beautiful snow girl is now napping, and later we'll mosey across the street to watch some of the Superbowl. What a great weekend.
